yesterday i shutdown my comp to reseat the heatsink as i was havin like a 1-2c boost in temp, and when i goto start it up, i can't get nothing to show. I am very sure that the heatsink had good contact and the thermal compound wasn't to thin or thick. ne how, the light just below the power led (what do u call it, hdd led or msg led??) blinks. usually i would assume a fried cpu. however just to make sure i tossed in a 750 athlon that i KNOW was working. same thing. i can't find anything in the book about troubleshooting, just on post beeps, nothing on the lights. o ya, when it boots up no sound which means no post.

headin over to asus's site to see if theres something on lights. but figured u guyz would know more

heres the question, could it be the power supply not giving enuf juice to the cpu to get it o go? i hope so, otherwise no upgrade on the vid card for me ;(

That is probably the hard drive light blinking.

I'd try resetting the cmos first then use default bios settings and don't try oc'ing. Then I'd check all cables to be sure all are in and that none were loosened accidently. Also press in the video card and ram, or reseat them.

Then if no go try another power supply. Good luck.

hmm. well i dunno. its never blinked before, infact i dunno where i even plugged it in, LOL. (it was my first machine, gimme a break ) i'll hafta check that.

I had the same problem but i realized that was the video card please try to remove it and also check the motherboard's battery.

ya, i've had alot of probs with this particular vid card. i cleared the cmos and no response still blade. i will get a new battery and try that, should have a psu in tommorrow or sometime. thx i'll keep ya updated

yea yea, that was the first thing i checked, lol. i pulled the psu outa the comp, and chucked it in another one. it seemed to work although when i got mbm5 up, it was pumpin out only 3v for the 5v and 1.66v for the 3.3
Vcore was like 1.5, and the only way i could get it to go is using an 800 dur, instead of the 1600+ XP

Hehe, talk about horror stories with heatsinks (Flash back to a month ago)

I just got my Thermalright AX7 and was preparing to get rid of my $15 cheap weed wacker fan... I had put a good 3 heatsinks on this cpu/motherboard in the last 3 months, so i was familiar with what i was doing. I removed the old fan, unplugging the cpu fan from the motherboard, it was stuck in so it took some force. After putting the heavy AX7 on, (rather roughly as I had to take out the psu to get a screw driver in), i plugged the new 80mm 50cfm fan into the motherboard, and screwed the psu back in, etc. I pushed the on button. Click. Again, Click. "Oh F*** i broke the die," was the only thing i could think. I pshed some fo the wires tot eh side, rearranging the psu to mobo cable by shoving it away from the cpu, seeing if a wire had been touching the case. Clock, Vrooom (the 11 fans in my file server roared). I was over joyed to see it on, til i looked through my case window to double over everything, and i saw teh cpu fan, NOT MOVING! I had a black screen before the damn atc 4 seconds would be over, and the power switch was too far away to reach in time. Now i really felt like i was about to be in the market for a new cpu. Well, i tried rearranging the wires over and over, and finally ti started again, and the cpu fan was on. I let go of the psu to mobo cable and it went off. I had figured out what the problem was in a sense. So, now, several times i positioned it differently, trying to see how to solve this problem. One time that i booted up, i was looking at the cable, isntead of looking at the on button. I saw a blue spark, the size of a quater zapping just inches from my hand. This time i pulled the plug, (took a while, but i wasn't electricuted). After ensuring there was no power going into the motheboard, i tugged at the psu to mobo cable and it came right out! It wasn't held in my the safe clip. Appearently when i took the old cpu fan out of the 3 pin adapter, litterally right next to the psu to mobo cable, i had loosened it and half of the pins were no securly in. After that, i plugged it in and it booted and I've had no problems sense. Goes to show that "measure twice cut once" really is a piece of true wisdom.

well, thx for the help guyz. apparently it was <b> both </b> the cpu and the psu. i guess i pushed the 1600 to hard, and fried it. it still wouldn't function with a different psu. but the 800 would.
