hi all-

i just swapped this:

abit bf6
p3 550e @ 715 (130fsb)

for this:

asus a7v
1gig thunderbird
alpha pal6035 w/ sunon 60mm
arctic silver goo

i did the infamous "swap" and let WinME detect all of the changes. everything seems to work except the following:

1. the system hangs periodically when trying to wake the monitor up. i have standby/suspend disabled, but the monitor will not come back on (i have the newest monitor drivers installed)

2. i flashed the BIOS to the newest version (1005a) and all seemed well...but now i get a "non-boot disk error...please insert disk and press enter" when restarting. i press "enter" and it continues fine. the boot sequence is correct in the BIOS. ???

any ideas? or should i just format c:/ ??? :(

I think if you enable boot sector protection in the bios, it works correctly. the best bios so far is probably 1004D.
If you need it, drop me an email, and I will get it to you.

thanks

thanks for the info. i ended up going back to the 1004d that it had to begin with. :)

i formatted and reinstalled WinME and it's so-far-so-good.

i haven't tried to overclock yet, just being happy that it's stable for a few days! :)

Kinda off the subject, but hehe, Don't use the VIA IDE driver. Use microsofts.

VIA vs. MS

All you need is the newest AGP and IRQ patch(people say you don't need the IRQ but i like having the newer one). The VIA IDE driver performs wrose then the MS, both by through put and CPU usage.
