the best way to connect a Delta CPU fan?

I ordered a Delta FFB0812SHE fan from crazypc.com that i plan to put on my AX-7 on a Shuttle AK31a. the description says that it has bare wires and no connectors. somewhere i read that some of these fans have 3 wires on a 3-pin, but it is not recommended to plug it in to the mobo, rather straight to the PSU.

since i foud the link from these forums, just wondering if anyone has got one of these fans from them, if it has 2 or 3 bare wires, and the best way to hook it up to get RPM monitoring?

I have that fan and have seen it come with a couple of different connectors on it. Mine came with a 3 pin connector. I cut the two power leads and hooked them to a 4 pin molex connector and then hooked them right to a 4 pin off of the power supply. Then hooked the 3 pin with only the tach lead attached to my mother board fan header. Now I dont have to worry about blowing the fan header because of excessive power draw and still can monitor my fan RPM's. I would suggest doing it this way.

you are right. that is what i want to do. it reads that it comes with "bare wires," i just don't know if it is gonna come with 2 bare wires or 3 bare wires.

It will have 3 bare wires more than likely.

it did have 3 bare wires, and got it all hooked up and it runs great, no problems. sounds like a dustbuster :)

There are 3-pin to 4-pin convertors that will also allow RPM monitoring. I just recently changed my 7K RPM 60mm Delta to straight off the PSU, been running it off the mobo header since March

i got it hooked straight to the 350W Antec PSU, with the tach led hooked to a 3-pin to the mobo. i also have one of the PSU fans (1 of 2, an Antec Smart fan)also hooked to the mobo. also the chipset fan and the front case fan, which is another Antec Smart Fan. all 4 mobo 3-pin spots are full.

got 2 rear case fans straight to the PSU, and with all those fans it is almost overkill. i open the case door, and it is like a window fan blowing me in the face, for real. it is really drawing on my 5V, which reads like 4.92 or something. in my other systems, it has never been below 5V, which may be some concern for me in the future if i decide to add more peripherals.

i would think about hooking the Delta fan straight to the mobo, but from what i have read, i am kinda shaky about it.
