stupid question about fans

okay, would stacking 2 fans on top of each other increase CFM at all, or would there be interference and actually make it worse?

It should increase the air flow and and cool your CPU more. Check this out

if you do this...leave a space between the 2 fans...as much as you can, and use tape or foil to suround the gap...that helps alot.

I doubt it'll do much good ... it won't increase CFM at all AFAIK, I've seen discussions like that before.
I think that CFM stays the same at best ... or lower ... for higher CFM you have to use a single higher CFM fan.

I would think a way to test the idea might be to use an rpm fan on the cpu cooler. If you add the second fan onto that see if the rpms go up?

If you blow on a dead fan it spins, but it blocks the airflow and slows it. The less it spins the more it blocks! The harder you blow the more it spins. So I think the trick is that if two fans increase cfm it is simply the first fan blows the second and spins it, since it is already spinng with out power, then all the power goes towards increasing the rpm above what the first fan allready has it spinning.

I think in practical use, just buying a faster larger fan would be easier and more effecient.

Now if you want to flow air through a tunnel, then use two fans because you have resistance to fight!
One fan on the cpu sink sucking air out the tunnel blowing onto the sink, and the other fan mounted to the case sucking in room temp air blowing into the tunnel. In this usage 2 fans should be better than one. Using a larger tunnel would also help, but the trick is to flow the air through fast so it does not warm up from case temps.

I plan to build a tunnel ram for mine if I ever get my mods started. I got busy and had to travel abit, so the mod parts are just sitting here and I don't have several important parts yet, like CPU and M/b! Soon as I get those I start modding!
