I was playing some dungeon siege, it just quit on me. went to restart, it came on, fans spun, but no post and it powered down in 5 seconds.

Waited overnight, still the same. Swapped out powersupply, still the same.

This is her machine. I am just wondering if anybody else has experienced a failure like this and if so what the problem was, I am figuring either CPU or mobo. I can try swapping out RAM tomorrow.
Her rig has been 100% stable since day 1.

Win98SE
TBIRD AXIA 1G @ 1,400 1.85V (Compuwiz chip) 133X10.5
Abit KG7 RAID 75w BIOS
2 256 mb pc2100 ddr
VTEK GeForce 3 Stock speed
3C905 NIC PCI3
Audigy PCI4
Promise ATA100 PCI5
2977 Modem PCI6
Primary HD WD 20GB
Secondary HD Maxtor 30GB
Liteon 16X DVD
Creative 12X CDRW

Went from a Enermax 331W PS to a 431W PS, no change.

Any assistance is appreciated.

try resetting the cmos and bringing it up at 1.0 ghz

what kind of heat were you getting?

dunnot if abit checks to see if there is a cpu fan installed, but some boards won't boot if it thinks there is no cpu fan

i'd try swapping out the cpu and the ram

also, check over at amdmb.com in their mobo forum and see if there are any odd issues with this board

As said above, sounds like no required fan detected or an overheat. The bios may have a selection for disabling this but make sure the fan does work! This one stumped me for a while when I started running my fans off 4 pin connectors.

If thats not it, try clearing cmos and starting over.

It's all your fault anyway, if the wife hasn't told you yet! ;)

Forgot I even posted this here.

The problem was.....ta ta ta da.

The rear defogger paint lifted up of the bridges and the chip relocked itself.
