I just swapped out my kidz' 1.33 t-bird with SuperDave for a 1 GHz Morgan Core Duron ( + some cash) and darn if that little bugger doesn't run 1250 ( 10 x 125 FSB ) like nothin' !! All my wife and kidz do with this rig is surf, play kidz games and solitaire etc....so I figured I'd keep the cash for a future upgrade ( for me, haha) and dumb down this into a nice little value system. I could get by EASY with a rig like this !! For peeps with limited budgets, this is a real winner.

I'll tell ya another thing too. These newer Durons run WAY cooler than both my 1.33 and 1.4 T-birds do. Almost 8-10C less under full load !! Doesnt' seem to be blinking at 1250 MHz. Seeing as I still have a little vcore voltage left, we may as well give 1.3 a shot! Core Multi is locked tho so I'll have to do the pencil trick and see what happens. I'll get back later with more info.

Is the VolcanoII fan hard to hear all by itself? I think my 4 30db case fans make most of the racket.

I've heard those Durons o/c very well. From what I've seen they seem to o/c higher that the comparable tbirds do.


Sean, the v2 fan is quiet. No high pitched sound, just a cas fan type sound. The v5 fan is good to use also and is quiet. The v5 fan is a bit more powerful than the v2 fan.

After sorting this thing out it looks like the best setup is 10x120 @1.75v ( 1200 ) and a stick of Tonicom PC166 running @ HostCLK +33 which essentially is 120x1.33 (159.6). That's my ram tho so they''ll have deal w/ Crucial @ 120 MHz til I get my DDR rig up.

Sweet little box tho. I might grab a GeForce3 Ti-200 in the Spring and turn this into a real budget rocket !

I'm glad you like the proc, Todd. For the record, the 1.33 you gave me is a smokin' little number, itself; it crunches G@H noticeably faster than the 1.2 I had in there, far faster than the 133Mhz should seemingly have helped. The Thermoengine's really not up to the task, though.

Today I finally received the Core Cooler I bought from Edward Ho a loooooong time ago, which is a long story I'll publish someday. Suffice it to say that Ed went thru personal hell to get me the cooler and deserves praise for his attitude and efforts. I'm gonna grab a rheostat, stick a Delta fan on that puppy and see just what I can make this CPU do.

Regarding the VolcanoII fan: it's a quiet, efficient piece of equipment, a great compromise between noise and CFM. Mine, however, has lost its' bearings ( ) after a year or so, and is now making wobblynoise in the kids' box. YMMV.
