How can you tell what mobo is in a laptop ? (without taking it all apart, SANDRA doesn't show anything)

All Laptop mobos are special solutions, you can't buy them directly from like Iwill or Asus.
SANDRA should be able to tell you the chipset used, though I'm not sure they support the mobile family of chipsets.
It might be the easiest way to check the specs at the manufacturers webpage for that model.

Noting on IBMs site about the board. When I changed the hard drive, I saw a bunch of tiny dip switches on it and was wanting to find out what they are for. Possible overclocking switches ? ? ? :D

Highly unlikely. Try google or dig somewhat deeper into IBMs page ... or just play a lil with them dipswitches and see what they do :E
