Iwill KA266-R bios is borked - BIOS ROM CHECMSUM ERROR

built a sysytem around the Iwill KA-266-R, and the first time I boot up, CPU is recognized. CD-ROM as well, but hard drive not (later I realized I had forgotten to plug in the hard drive's molex connector).

I reboot, and this time it says Bios Checksum error, and prompts me to insert a boot disk of some sort.

I go to the Iwill site (using a different computer) , and download a bios update disk...I put that on a 3.5" floppy, reboot, put it in, and it loads, but when it reaches the intial bios update screen, it freezes and does not load any longer.

I cannot get any further than this screen.

Any ideas? I tried clearing the CMOS, but it didn't work.

hey go into the bios and set the IDE drives to auto detect. what is happening is that it does not detect hardrive so it thinks you have no Operating system so it tells you install it by using the bootdisk.

first go into bios. go to setting where you see the ide 1 and ide 2. set all ides to auto detect and you should have no problem if anything else happens email me at wizardfox_123@yahoo.com or send me private message

On some Iwill mobos you have to manually detect the HDDs in the BIOS ( Standard CMOS Features) the first time you boot. highlight each device and hit enter and then ask to detect them there by highlighting each IDE channel both primary and secondary and pressing enter again. Then set everything to auto if it isn't already and hit the ESC key back to each menu.

If there is a problem, you may need to enter the system BIOS and make sure the appropriate IDE channel is set to AUTO, in order to autodetect the drives. Most motherboards ship with IDE channels set to AUTO by default, and only extremely old motherboards do not have this feature. For these models, you may have to physically enter the drive parameters (found in the manual or on the back of the drive) into the system BIOS.
