Need a little help

Post by NascarFool »

**EDIT**
I called Asus, they had me remove the jumper on VIO1. Now it works just fine at 1333MHz.

System won't run at 1.33GHz. It will run at 1GHz.

Specs:
1333MHz Athlon
Asus A7M266 mobo (has latest bios) (onboard sound)
256megPC2100 Crucial (1x256)
350watt ps
40gig ATA100 WD
2x HP DVD
8x Sony CDRW
Voodoo5 5500 AGP
Asound PCI NIC
Win98SE

I've tried jumper mode and jumper free mode. :(

have you tried different operating system. when i had win 98 on my pentium 3 1.0ghz overclocked at 1.3ghz it will give me errors and it was unstable. but then i upgraded to win2k and no problem. or you could check to see if the processor was overclocked to those settings. on some intel chips produced like 1.0ghz are sometimes 800mhz chips overlclocked at 1.0ghz. or maybe you should rma the cpu and sent it back to amd and get a new one

put ram settings to the slowest and see if that helps when you go to the 1.33...Just an idea.

Did you try setting the cpu manually in the bios? Like 10x133 or other variations. You've probably tried that but thought I'd mention it.

Or perhaps try a different bios. Maybe there is a newer one available for that mobo. *edit duh, you did say you have the latest bios, me bad.

The ram is PC2100, the setup will run at 2x100. The bios shows the processor at 1000MHz and the ram as PC1600. At 2x133, the processor shows as 1330MHz and the ram as PC2100. Also at 1333MHz, the processor runs 56ºC and I get registry errors. If it makes it into Win98, then the illegal ops start popping up as fast as you can close them. :(

The processor is a boxed Athlon1333MHz/266FSB with HSF. The die is also marked 1333. :(
I might send the A7M266 back and get an A7A266 board.

Ok, this is a new non-overclock setup. I already have a heat problem at 1333MHz, so increasing the voltage is out. The heatsink is an AMD heat sink that came in the AMD box with the processor. I think it might be the mobo. I pulled the "bubble gum" thermal crap off and replaced it with AS2. The temps didn't come down much. I would pull the proc and try it in mine, but I don't want to take a risk of damaging it. The heat sink clip is hard to unclip and clip.

Win2K and WinXP are not an option. I think it is the mobo. I have the same processor in mine but I have an A7A266. It runs fine at 11x140. I will try the new proc in mine today. :(

**EDIT**
It runs great at 1333 in my comp. The A7M266 must be bad. :(
