Yeah, celleries are pretty terrible performers. However, Intel still has the market advantage and can therefore sell em at a higher price even though the AXP's kick their arse.
Welcome to the machine.

It's nice to see Intel called on the carpet for what truly is worthless POS CPU. What's sad is people will see a Celeron @ 2.6 GHz and automatically think that it's faster than say a Barton 2500+.

It's been a while since clock speed was the determining factor regarding CPU performance but try educatiing the general public that it's IPC ( instructions per clock cycle ) and it will take you a decade. So entrenched is the Intel marketing machine that higher clock speed will always translate into "better" to the masses. If they only knew.

Regarding the Celerons.........what DOGS !!

my old Tbird 1.3 now belongs to my buddy, he went out and bought a 2 gig celery thinking it was faster and when he tried playing NFS underground he got a whopin 7 FPS... it was like watching a slideshow...
slapped the 9200se from the celery into my old Tbird and she hummed along at the same details and 40-50 FPS

Celery has become a huge dung beetle infested pile of poo :)

That was a great article... the one thing I wish they'd done though is put an old P3 Celery in the comparison. Maybe a 1.3 Tualatin core Celery. I bet it would have smacked down the 2.0 on some of the tests. Now that would have been funny.

hehhe. good one! :)

since intel is still into pushing cpu's by their clock speed and not performance...i think they should create cpu's that perform the same as today's cpu's but run at 50GHz. that'll fool the public and they'll sell more. hehehe

it was sad when the p4's came out and were being outperformed by the p3's...because the p3's were more efficient at equal clock speeds.
