BH6 networking oddity

Post by Buzz »

Just want to share this with u guys :)

I set up my old BH6/Celery566@850/256MB running Win2k again... using it as a second puter.

It has a Cnet 10/100 NIC and shares some folders.

If i use a Dlink integrated 10/100 HUB and transfer files or use the network, it will lock up.
if i use main puter, and aksess the shared folders on the BH6 puter, Bh6 puter will eventually lock up.

First thing i tried, was moving the NIC to another slot. No good.
Then i switched to a 3Com 10/100 NIC. no good.
Then i tried a integrated 10Mbit HUB on a Cisco router. That worked.

But i wanted 100Mbit. I tried changing drivers and cables. but nothig worked. had to run at 10 to run stable.

Bought a new 10/100 Switch. Eventually it crashed anyway. :(

Checked BIOS... again. I altered these settings:

Plug and Play OS: No from Yes
Spread spectrum: Disabled from Enabled
PCI something...: Diabled from Enabled

It works!!! :) My guess is the Plug and Play OS... it has given me strange probs before on this mobo... i set it to yes when i installed win98 on this box... forgot about that.

oh well... :)
