1700+ tbred OC help!

Post by knightofnee1112 »

I got this spiffy 1700+ with a tbred core and I am hoping to OC it more then 3 MHz on the bus, the cooling is good on it, it will stay well below 90 degrees. in fact, it hovers around 87 when under a heavy load. SO, what ever shale i do?! perhaps unlocking it? I've got a soltek SL-75KAV/-X mobo and 512 MB ram. (2X256MB) the mobo accualy has something called "redstorm overclocking" and its like, automatic overclocking, or something, but whats the sport in that?! I am thinking about unlocking my CPU.... I just want some tip n' tricks on how to get this puppie to at least 1.7GHz or better. I'm sure that it'll go much higher if done properly.

HEEELLPPP!!!

thanks!

I have a 1700+ TBred aswell. Have it running at 10.5x183(1.92Ghz)@1.75V.
You should have no problems trying to get to 1.7Ghz

start overclcoking the fsb in 5 mhz increments - after you nudge the voltage on the cpu and mem a little bit - take it up until it wont boot, then increase volts, etc - at each plateau run burn in program to assure stability - like sandra burn in utility - rinse and repeat - i have an 1800 non-tbred running at 160 fsb

just take it slow and easy - you will get more if you unlock (and your mobo supports this kind of stuff)

ok, I just need to get my hands on some conductive ink, I tried the other method by connecting the two pins on the bottem, and it didn't work. SO! back to connecting the L3 bridges. Thanks guys!

BTW: even when i cool the CPU down alot, when i mess with the voltage wont it still kill the length of it's life??? I never did figure that out, perhaps one of ya can help clear this up.

THANKS!

overclocking will supposedly shorten the life

voltage+heat+high fsb = electron migration and other degradation of the cpu - it may only last for 2-3 years instead of 5-6 or more

unless you are really jacking the voltage it's not something to worry about b/c you'll probably have a new cpu long before this one croaks - voltage mods to the chip itself can result in croaking the chip
