P4 Pin question
Which one is intel planning on using for the long haul.......423 or the 478? I seem to remember reading, that they were going to 423 hence the 850 chipset. Damn it, I am so out of touch, I have so many things going on, with the band and shit, i never have time for the computer stuff anymore..............end question and rant.

I think it's nearly impossible to purchase a mobo for the long haul.
Socket FC-PGA2 (478 pins) seems to be the one Intel will use for the NEAR future.
I wouldn't bet on them using the same socket for the next 2 years ... and even then it's not likely that you can use the CPU they make in 1 or 2 years in todays mobo. Your mobo in general might accept the CPUs then but most likely only the newer revisions (and you're likely to have one that's just old revision).
It's pretty much this situation: you buy today mobo/cpu/memory and you'll buy in 2 years new mobo/cpu/memory.

I am aware of the consent upgrading battle, I just want to know, which was the newer of the chips. I remember readin somewhere that they went to the 423 pins from the 478. I also seem to remember the artical mentioning that the 478 would be gone before the 423. Thats where i am seeking light on the subject.

Yeah there's the westwood and northwood 478's i think... Something like that i cna't keep up with intel they change their shit faster than i can change my undies lol If my memory serves me correctly the northwood is the .13micro chips and the other is still .18 or something to that affect my memory sucks and i ain't into Intel like i use to be so i'm not 100% sure...
