Quake III HELP!

I upgraded to version 1.27g and 1.27h.
With both versions when I boot up the game the ID screen comes up and the opening movie will play, but when I go to the menu nothing is there but a blank screen. But I can hear the menu sounds in the background when I move my mouse.

I can bring up the console and it reads:
RE_RegisterFont: Freetype code not available

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

You prolly have a custom .pk3 with "bad" shaders. To combat some cheats 1.27 deals with shaders differently than 1.17, and some are no longer valid. Try removing all custom maps, skins, and mods, and see if it launches properly. If so, then replace them one by one and launch Q3 to identify the bad pak(s). It was an old pak that was an upgrade! Deleted it and ran perfect!!!!!

P.S. How is your bilirubun count?

I've been hearing horror stories about the 1.27 patch, but I've never had any problems myself. And it speeds up the gameplay quite a bit. Not QW, but better
