best RPG to play??

Post by Demrok »

I'm lookin for something good
Morrowind is gettin along in it's time
I have SO much to do yet it's almost not worth it...almost that is ;)
I have played the sh!t outta DS already too....
I hear GothicII is suposed to be wicked....

anyone know of a really great RPG that has Multiplay ability?
I wish morrowind had a MP option... I'd never quit playing

or even an RPG more towards the FF series look...with MP ability
oh and I'm talkin a FREE MP mode too... :) I don't have the cash for this MMORPG BS !

MAYBE when WOW hits the shelf I'll shell out some cash

any ideas people!?
thanks!

I can only say that Gothic II certainly roxs. I'm thinking about getting the extension pack and replaying the game.
I dunno about decent free multiplayer RPGs but I'm also waiting for WoW, which'll hopefully be my next drug (dang, I still miss my year on EverCrack).

IMHO there havn't been any really good RPG's lately, NWN was OK but not fantastic. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repulic just came out and it's supposed to rock hard. I'll be trying it out soon.

If you want some old school lovin and have never played them, get the Fallout and Baldur's Gate series, best RPG's ever...

edit: oh and Planescape: Torment and the hybrid FPS/RPG's like DeusEx and System Shock 2

I haven't got wrapped up in a RPG for sometime - still got Morrowind on my drive, not finished it - but "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" has provided more fun for me than any other "Star Wars" game since "Jedi Knight II" or any RPG game that I've played...

It's good stuff... :D

Yeah NWN was pretty good, never did finish it either :)
it seems that the RPG's that have been out in the last few years don't hold my attention very long
Morrowind may lose my attention periodicly due to the fact that I just get tired of walking the lands over and over...but I always come back to it because it is SO indepth!! I love that I can virtually touch anything! but nothing will compare to when I first played FF7.. it consumed me... THAT was the best RPG ever. Compelling storyline, unforgettable characters and the coolest bad guys... totally awesome

I wanna find that again and so far morrowind is the only thing to come close

Star Wars, although not as appealing to me, may be a worthwhile look into. But I just can't get into the whole Star Wars game atmosphere... never really did (with exception to Rogue Squadron and Shadows of the Empire) Those were fun

Hehe, Gothic II was already released this spring here in Germany ... I guess it just took a while to be translated for the US (or maybe to find a publisher).

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repulic got high ratings but might not be as much of a challenge for the more hardcore RPG players. I still have to read the review from my german PC Games mag.

Baldurs Gate 2 + Extension is still one of my favourite RPGs. The storyline and the really different characters in your group were so much fun to play with.

Ah yes, after I replied to the post I thought... what if he's from Europe? :) I knew the game was released there awhile back

wish there was a damn demo! :)

What I've read about Knights of the Old Republic, it's inner workings are based on the stats system that Bioware used for Baldurs Gate... It's not as hard core as BG, the status and leveling don't (for me) overwhelm and let you keep moving along... It's much like if Deus Ex and Half Life were molded together to make a new type of game...

Anyhow, I've played 7 hours into it and it's still a blast... :D

here here! FF7 was the best rpg ive ever played. I played through it twice on the PS and once on the PC and it was still fun. its funny, but one of the things I liked most about it was the music.

playing KoTOR right now and its pretty fun. havent gotten to the jedi stuff yet but its still pretty cool.

I agree.. FF7 was definatly a GREAT game.. :) I got about 75% through FF8 and LOST disc 3!! *cries* If ANYBODY has a copy of that game and would burn me a copy of disc 3 I'd appreaciate it.. :) I can provide proof that I have the other 4 (there was an install disc) discs and they are legit. :) eGo

BAh! you're not missing much...

an end battle that lasts for ever and is SUPER easy... boring really... didn't like FF8 at all,...
9 was gettin back to the roots, but they've added so much flare and made it WAY to graphical...

FF3 and 7 will forever be my fav RPG's

and I can get you a copy of the 3rd disc! PC or PSX?? I am assuming PC :)

LMK!

Anyone looking for a novel RPG to play, Knights of the Old Republic is sweet. I've been bored with many of the RPG's lately, but this one is original and fun. I recommend it...

As far as Morrowind goes it'll be a lot less annyoing if you "cheat" a bit. The whole trick to getting along with Morrowind is to get able to go places quickly.

Here's a couple tips:
Get something enchanted with constant effect levitate, as high a level as possible. I think I had a magnitude 8 levitate on an exquisite ring. Of course it cost me 10s of thousands of gold, but well worth it. It only takes a minute or two to fly all the way across Vvardenfall.
Get the boots of blinding speed and an enchanted item that gives you spell resistance for a couple seconds. 100% resist magicka will leave you with a perfectly clear picture. 25% will leave everything really dark once you put on the boots. Use the spell resistance item, then immediately open your inventory and put on the boots. The game only checks constant effect items agaisnt spell resistance when you put them on, so you won't go blind after the resistance spell wears off. 200+ speed is much nicer than the max of 100 you can get w/o a bit of help.
