Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms has never announced even a tentative release date for their first-person shooter - but that didn't stop reports that the game wouldn't ship in 2003 from surfacing on Thursday.
Shacknews was the first to report a statement by Take Two in response to a question from an analyst during a financial results conference call that the title won't be ready for the 2003 holiday shopping season. In the words of the Take Two representative: "We're just hopeful the team in Dallas will finish it." This doesn't mean Duke Nukem Forever has been cancelled or even delayed. It merely indicates Take Two doesn't know when 3D Realms will deliver it.
-----------------
Take Two: um we don't know when Duke Never is going to be done if ever.
Thats a sign of confidence right there.
Couldn't find Duke Nukem Forever on ebgames. It used to be listed there before E3.
Went over to Gamelord

Maybe it should be changed to April 1st.

3drealms have been lost in a realm, of the haunting. They are trying to avoid another daikatana. But at this point they ain't looking much better than ole johnboy romero. in fact, they are looking worse because they are far more late. Remember when they switched to the unreal engine, it was just suppose to delay the game a couple more months. Wasn't that back in '99.
doesn't know when 3D Realms will deliver it
3drealms has no clue either. All they can say is their typical arrogant line: <i>"when it's done"</i>

After getting a look at HL2 they probly said "oh shit,we are in trouble" and went back to the drawing board yet again.

That probably did have an effect on them. Oh gee, another engine change again eh.
<i>05/30/03 "3DRealms has decided to change engines for Duke 4 to the more advanced Q4 engine and promises this will be much more fun for gomers who also have the new GeeWiz 9 512mb video card and 2gig of ram. "We are only thinking of you gomers" says 3DRealms. This "slight" delay shouldn't be no more than 3 years at which such time there is a viable possibilty of another switch to either the upcoming UT3 or QT5 engine. More details in 2-3 years. Thanks to all of you for your loyal support!" -the 3DRealms team</i>

It is pretty rediculous how long this game is taking to make, so here's hoping that it will be worth the wait and will be a great game. Hey, it's not like there isn't anything else to play. If the game rocks, I'll get it for sure...

The window for Duke has closed... It's sad that 3DRealms pissed it away...

More arrogant talk from what's his mouth:
http://www.duke4.com/
<i>Release Date : "When it's done". Simple as that. Also, ignore ALL release dates unless you hear them from us. This includes EB, Amazon or anywhere else. We will tell you when it's getting really close, and we will tell you when it's done. We promise.
"What's taking so long?": Lots of things. We had too few programmers early on. Some tech took too long to do. We switched engines. We started over a time or two. And a bunch of other stuff. Point is, we know it's late, and you know it's late. Let's stop talking about it, ok? </i>
"Let's stop talking about it, ok?"
Uh, you are the cause of this bs georgy girl. And we'll talk about it all we want.
<i>We're not going to debate development with you. Our job is to deliver the best game we can. Your job is to buy it or not, based on many factors. We don't have to listen to you telling us how we're doing everything wrong, in the process :-) We're old and stuck in our ways, and you won't change our minds, so just accept that.
System Specs : They are going to be steep. You will need a video card with pixel shaders. A GeForce 3 will be about the minimum card, and ideally you will want something like the latest ATI or nVidia card. Sure, the game will probably run on a GeForce 1/2, but you're not going to want to.
As for CPU? The more the better. A 1Ghz is a pretty slow machine these days, and you're probably going to want a 2 Ghz or better. DO NOT buy hardware for the game now. Wait until it's done and see where things are then.
New shots or videos : When will we release some? When we're ready. Asking about it every other day isn't going to help and it isn't going to hurry us. We know people are curious, and we're excited at the prospects of showing you new stuff, but not right now. Please don't ask. Just be patient. </i>
I really hope it is a major failure. That asshole deserves it.

This situation is another one that's past being rediculous. Long ago, they easily could have/should have launched it and no matter what, it would have been popular enough to make them a buttload of money. If it later became in need of better technology, a patch or two would probably be fine as it's worked for the other guys. It's almost too late because those who played the original Duke are almost too old to play PC games anymore and the younger guys don't even know who Duke was.

What's with the rage, blade? Those responses were from when Take Two dissed them during their conference call, weren't they?
Unreal was release April 30, 1998 and they'd been working on Duke Nukem (Will Take) Forever for about 6 months and switching from the Quake 2 engine wasn't expected to be a big deal. Granted, the game world has changed SEVERAL TIMES in the ensuing 5 years and it's hard to see how DNF will be competitive in the post-HL2/D3 world, but whatever - it's not my time or money on the line.
Also, I don't think it's fair to slam them for not saying anything. Heck, the fact that beyond the dozen or so screens that showed in late-'99 and the trailer that ran at E3 2001 (yeesh), it's been the biggest NON-hype compared to games that have so many "previews" that when it finally hits retail shelves, it feels like it came out a year previous.
