Knew it was just a matter of time.

Can it live up to the hype?

Judging by the scans below its looking good from what you can see.I hope the SP is at least and good as the first one was.If the mods dont think it's a good idea for me to post these I'll edit my post.

This is my second most anticipated game of the year (next to doom 3 ;) ) I really hope they focus on the story like they did in the first. They have the same writer, so I think it might. I'm surprised they've kept it under wraps for so long....looks like they have a lot of it done so far. I hope they incorporate coop into the single-player mode.

I always assumed it would come out after Doom III and use it's engine....looks like I might be right :)

Yeah I hope it's good too.So many games have been a real letdown lately.HL sinngle player in my mind was one of the best gaming experiences I've had on PC.

My system was a p233,64mb ram,and 2 Diamond Monster II's in SLI.

I'm looking forward to this more than Doom3. Doom3 will be cool, but unless something radically changes between now and the Gold release, it doesn't look like Doom3 will allow much alteration of the environment except for scripted events.

The whole breakthrough of the original HL was that you COULD alter the environment. Remember this was 6 YEARS AGO. - you could scorch the walls, leave bullet holes and blood splatters, smash boxes. It was revolutionary.

No one's really done any better since except for Max Payne, and that was only single player.

Looks like HL2 is going to go over the top with alterable environments.

All I can say is: IT'S ABOUT TIME!

dont forget the ai and the unpredictable story line.. ai put hl 1 over the top, b4 that ai didnt really react to the enviroment

Red Faction has a very changable environment. However, you couldn't interact with as many things.

Looks pretty awesome. :D

The big deal with Red Faction was you could blow holes in some types of walls. It was very cool BUT the game didn't really use it properly. Once you got over the "gimmick" of the feature, there was nothing there.

What will totally alter the world of FPS games is a REALLY destructable environment - one that persists in multiplayer.

I want to have a firefight in an alley and when it's done I want it to LOOK like a firefight took place there. Subtle things like shell casings littering the ground, and when you walk on them they make noise. Walk past a smashed window pane, and hear the crunching of glass under foot.

I want to FINALLY be able to walk into a room and shoot the fucking lights out.

I know it takes a lot of processing power, but the technology is very close.

HL is practically all I play (CS, Dod, TOD) - amazing for a Quake2 (actually more like Quake 1.5) based game engine that's 6 years old. By far the best multi-player game platform EVER.

HL2 has got a LOT of expectations to live up to. Should be interesting.

Yeah, without that GeoMod, Red faction wouldn't have been much at all.

I'd love to experience the same thing you want to experience. That would be awesome! :D

This looks amazing! It's now tied with Deus Ex 2 as my most anticipated game... seeing as the original HL and DE were my favorite games... :)

Doom 3 looks cool, and I'm sure I'll get it, but I'm not as eager about it...

HL2,Deus Ex 2,and Thief 3 are the ones I'm looking foward to the most.I'm sure Doom 3 will be good but I just cant get as excited about it as the others.I have to say HL is the game I've played the most online. It was either CS(in the early beta days before 5.2)or TFC.Then came DoD played that for a while.Played some smaller mods in between those like Rocket Crowbar and jailbreak(I think that was the name).Currently the only games I play online are NS mod for HL and IL-2 FB.

HL had(still having)a great run but I'm ready for something new.Hopefully HL2 will be as exciting as HL was.
