Hi guys,
I tried the following by bringing down the console:
s_initsound 0
snd_restart
timedemo 1
set demo1 "demo demo001; set nextdemo vstr demo2"
set demo2 "demo demo002; set nextdemo vstr demo1"
vstr demo1
but nothing happens. It goes right back to the main menu. I did not see any demo001 or demo002 files anywhere within the q3 folder structure.
How do I perform a Q3A frame test?

I found this over at Planet Quake Ex I hope it helps.
I think you are just missing the / (slash command)
before the timedemo command , believe it or not but I think it is necessary.good luck

First Things First
Before we get started we're going to do something very important. We're now going to do a time demo so you can get a baseline on how your video card performs with your current settings in Q3. All you have to do to run a time demo is start Quake III and while the menu is visible pull down your console. ( Pulling down your console can be done by depressing the ~ key). Once you've done that type in the following:
/timedemo 1 <depress enter> then type
/demo demo 001 <depress enter>

Executioner: To run a timedemo type this:
s_initsound 0
snd_restart
timedemo 1
demo demo001
If you're running version 1.17 (or earlier) that will work.
You need the / only if you're connected to a server.

They are in the pak0.pk3 file.I did not see any demo001 or demo002 files anywhere within the q3 folder structure.

Q3 Timedemos
Executioner,
You can run timedemos with the point release (1.27g) using the console commands. The problem is the two demos that show up on the demo menu require items from Team Arena. However, there is a new demo included in the point release that doesn't show up in the Demos Menu. It's named demo127. Use this demo with the commands given in the posts above.

As a side note to the timedemo test, I get the following:
82 fps using a Voodoo3 3000 AGP and PIII600
I have the following:
800x600
Color depth 16 bit
Lighting lightmap
Geometric Detail high
Dynamic Lighting Off
Eject brass Off
Marks on Walls Off
Is that result OK with what I have? That test was done with the sound off. If I enable the sound, then the FPS drops to 53.

I actually checked mine now for the first time. With every eye candy option ON including sound, (just doing the 'timedemo 1, demo demo001' lines) at 1152X864x32 it does 70fps (no tweaks at all, no autoexec.cfg file). With GeForce2 GTS 32mb
Not bad considering, it's still playable at that res IMO. I'll try it later after I create an autoexec.cfg file "tweaks" to see if it improves any at that same high res, although I'm sure that dropping it down a notch would help.
Anyone here in this thread know the command for UT? Never checked it before either.
No heh?
