So Q3A now has prescripted voice messages (like UT), Teamplay games (like UT), Orders for bots (like UT) and a menu system (like UT).

Can't help being reminded of how Carmack was critising these features in UT at it's launch saying gamers didn't want them and that they PREFERRED typing into a little console window...

Won't deny any of that and I think UT is a great game but I find that I always go back to Q3. I like the engine and feel of the game better than UT. I always turn off the voice taunts, they just get annoying. I never had any issues with the bots in Q3 bcause I don't play twith them. But I have tried them and had no problems issuing commands. I played Q3 for the DM and Freeze Tag mod (Teamplay) and UT for CTF but I still spent almost all of my time playing Q3. The Freeze Tag mod is a blast.

...Q3A all the way for me, too. Gotta love it. Altho I have to admit that I enjoy it every time when I fire up the old UT...especially on Unreal maps, must be a nostalgia thing 'cos I only ever played the botmatches on Unreal and loved it so much :) I guess we'll always play both, and I believe that great Counter Strike like mods could be brewed up on the UT engine. For that sort of thing it seems perfect. Q3A just blows you away in speed and power, weapons balance and atmosphere, it's such a rush, but I'm sure there'll be great things in store for UT. CTF already is awesome :)

Maybe the coffee hasn't yet kicked in here but the links URL I saw leads me back in time to the original Q3 demo that came out a year ago (very old news).
If there's a new mod there, where is it and what's so special about it compared to the original game?

The thing he's actually talking about is <A HREF="//www.quake3arena.com/tademo/"> here. </A> It's Q3 Team Arena basically they finally realised that the team games supplied with UT (i.e. not dependant on indepentants) rock and this is an attempt to catch up.

Personally I've never come across a game varient as much fun as UT domination and UT assult. Of the independant mods for UT Tactical OPs is probably one of the best.

The one game I'm really looking forward to next month is Tribes 2...

All I know is IGN must have one big fat pipe. I downloaded the 127 meg file last night in under 10 minutes.

The link to the demo is in the original link I posted. Look closely, it is there. It is called TeamArenaDemo.exe I guess it is my fault for not linking closer to the file, sorry. I didn't want to be a bastard and link right to the file, thats not nice. Anyway, here try this one it should get you one step closer.

I'm guessing Quake 3 Team Arena is what the original Quake 3 should've been, no?

No Q3A was exactly what it was supposed to be. It said it was a deathmatch game right on the box. I guess you are also a bit pissed that the deathmatch quality of NFS5: porsche unleashed was so bad? :D If you thought you were buying a team game then I am sure you were dispointed and liked UT much better. If you mostly play deathmatch (like me) then UT was a bit less than stellar. I agree that Assault is a really cool gameplay type; I wish more servers ran it.

As for Q3:TA, the new gameplay modes are fun (I think I played Harvester before though when it was called headhunters :) ), but the demo runs kinda on the slow side for me. Maybe my system is already out-of-date? (C2 at 952, 384 MB RAM, GF2 GTS). Supposedly there will be a terrain engine in the full game (a la Tribes) and maybe that will be worth messing around with. Seems like the sort of thing that should be included as a gold edition or game of the year edition along with the original game for $29to me rather than a standalone product...

Well I played the demo for a few hours yesterday (one flag CTF,vanille CTF, overload , and <S>Headhunters</S> Harvester. I thought Overload and <S>Headhunters</S> Harvester were pretty fun. The game designs really make playing defense most important, but the point awards for defense are pretty low so you are always on bottom of scoreboard unless you go out and cap. For a 120 mb download you'd really expect more than one map....

iD sucks for not giving the headhunter guys credit; harvester was available for Q2 too :/
