Need some MP help. Please.

What's up, fellas? Long time, no PCA...sbp sent me a link to a PCA thread and it reminded me of my joining when AGN closed and blade started this place up. Seems to have prospered quite a bit.

Well, here's a quote from a Hardforum thread. Read away, and see if you can think of anything :) .

Damn, my MP used to be running as smoothly as some of you have mentioned (albeit not patch-free since I have a GF3/Win2k/>256mb RAM.) I had to reinstall w2k (cause my HD's crashed, bummer) and I did everything how I usually do it, and this time, after I reinstall w2k and tried to reinstall MP, I get CRC errors when the install has reached 100%. This happens with the same four files...x_level..ras x_music etc etc. I went to EB, bought another copy just to see if it was the medium (as the error said), and I get the same errors. The game installed fine on my other comp (celly 533@800, 128mb, win2k, gf2mx) and it runs fine. I use the CDROM in my other comp in mine and it still :p :p :p :ps up (albeit less CRC errors than my plex 16x and toshiba 16x DVD). Well, there's an ignore option with those CRC errors so I install the game, patch it, and now I get either a freeze, boot to desktop, or

Exception:
Invalid data read from an R_MemoryFile("part1_level1.ldb")

Closing..

Really starting to piss me off....anyone have any ideas?

Krish, seems like I read something about the Nvidia drivers, certain ones didn't like MP. Can't remember what the whole deal was about though. But since it ran smooth to start, you're probably using same one's. Did you install the patch out for MP? Supposed to fix it with W2K.

Well, early this morning, when I was delirious still working on MP, I kept cleaning my CD's over and over (since a copy I made and the original would have CRC errors on different files) and eventually the real one worked. After that I thought I was home-free, but I still keep getting booted with R_Memoryfile errors like a madman...this is after the patch. Trying 12.41 non-WHQL dets from Nvidia's site right now...no luck. Tried No-CD patch, still didn't work. It always crashes at the same part in loading part 1 level 3. Gonna try without No-CD patch and see what happens.

Can someone send me a savegame that's in the middle of level 3 (don't worry, I had already played thru level 7 when I had to reformat).

It sounds like your CD player has a problem reading the CD - probably due to the SafeDisc copy protection.

Try the SafeDisc patch from their site here: http://www.macrovision.com/solutions/software/fix.php3

Also, if you have the room, you can try copying the CD to a HD folder and then installing it from there. Upgrade it to 1.01 then install the 1.01 No-CD patch.

Hope this helps...

Tried both (had seen your thread earlier with the safedisc patch). Copying all the files to the HD just gives me the same errors...

Well, holy shit. After six hours of working on this bitch (well, maybe an hour of playing), it works. Bought a cdrom and another copy of MP today....that didn't help. Around 4 (am) i started just removing hardware....removed ATA card, no dice, removed one nic, no dice, removed 2nd nic (adding an additional nic was the only thing i changed after the HD failure), it installs perfect. I patch, it plays perfect (played 10 levels with no crashing). I'm so f'ing glad that I'm able to play this game (dream levels blew goats, tho, I wasn't too enthusiastic about Ragnarock either), but aside from that, it rocks.

Hopefully, I can get the word out that disabling nics in addtion to modems is a solution for the crashing problem.

I don't mind the dream levels so much but the damn walking on a line in the air during the dream levels suck.

I'm up to the spot where Max gets injected with the overdose.

I really liked the fire scene in the restaurant - that got my blood pumping. Darn nicely rendered fire too.

Heh, I died a couple times in the fire scene running into dead ends...I knew something like that would be coming up. Same here with the dream sequences...the parts where he sees himself with his ***************SPOILER******************* wife and all that crazy plot-twist shit are awesome.

Also just got to the part where you get pumped full of V. Just picked up a Colt (sucks that you started out with just pistol after the OD...I miss my ingrams :) )
