Yep, tis official:

http://money.cnn.com/2004/07/14/comment ... tm?cnn=yes
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Since 2000, developer id Software has told the world the next installment of "Doom," the game that kicked off the action genre, would ship "when it's done."

Good news, gamers: It's done. In the lexicon of the industry, "Doom 3" has gone gold.

That means with id Software's work done, publisher Activision is duplicating copies to ship to retail. What it all boils down to is you'll be able to pick up a copy at retail on Aug. 5, though some stores could start selling the game as early as Aug. 3.
It'll be on 3-4 cd's, no DVD version.

Aside from NFS: Hot Pursuit 2, the last shooter/game I got into was I believe RTCW.

as if theres a bandwidth shortage

honestly...if its this close and its gonna come out, i say it deserves to be talked about. Its the third in the greatest series of all time. Doom 1 and 2 were just such a blast to play back in the day, how can you not like that a third is almost here and how much of an improvement it is over the previous 2?
Gone for good. But never say never

Well, considering that a large part of our 'bandwidth' is because of ID (creators of Doom), I doubt they'd mind. ;)
