Dang, no rest for the weary. 1.6 is to be released next week. Supposed to mostly be bug patches & a minimap update. Maybe that won't mess up much.

No pistons? Notch promised to add pistons in the next update. Why bother? If they don't add any major features I probably won't update the server.

I'm getting bored with Minecraft. We need a major feature update. I'm really looking forward to building some interesting contraptions using pistons.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about, this is the Piston mod that notch says will be added to the game. Unfortunately the mod is only for single player right now:

Update on the piston mod status for the game here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/302889-piston-mod/

Sounds like we have to wait for 1.7 at the earliest :(

Dang, pistons do look very cool. I can skip 1.6. Nothing that seems special.

Nope, I'm still working on the basement. Keep running out of TNT. I've used close to 1000 already. I'm so close now that I'm probably just gonna stick with the pick anyhow. Only about 30 more blocks down.

Official changelist for Minecraft 1.6:

Looks like they fixed a lot of bugs like the silly arrow animation issues.

The only thing that really grabs my eye in 1.6 is hatches (horizontal doors). I assume this will allow for trap doors. Unfortunately water won't flow through them which is a pity:

I am really waiting for pistons. With pistons we can finally have water valves and make some really interesting Rube Goldberg contraptions.

I so can't wait for the stuck in a wall fix. I've lost everything 3 times that way (and a number of times just barely saved myself by hacking away at everything around me).

Hatches would be nice, I've got just the use for a couple currently. What would make my day though is more half blocks (glass in particular).
* Fixed falling while riding not dealing damage to the rider
I'm a little worried about this because my attachment to the mail rail system involves about a 40 block drop.
* Fixed fire hurting through wall corners
This one has got me a few times.
* Fixed fences and stairs sometimes becoming invisible
This one is a problem on my main entrance. Had to put torches in odd places to get them to stay visible.
* Fixed minecarts next to each other causing extreme velocities (sorry!)
Huh, this may be a the biggest kicker here. May kill the entire rail system.

Well Notch warned us he was going to fix the boosters because they do lag the server. It was never a feature - it was actually a bug.

You DO know that you can replace boosters with powered rails now? I re-did my entire rail cart system with powered rails. Makes gold suddenly a lot more valuable: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Powered_Rail

Taz's rail cart system was already broken by 1.5 anyway. Notch fixed it so minecarts don't move when floating on water, which is an integral part of how Taz's cart dispenser works. We should be able to redesign the cart dispenser to use powered rails and detector rails.

Matter of fact, that may be a good project for me. I've been bored lately. Maybe I'll clone Taz's rail station and re-design it and replace the boosters. Gives me something to do until we get pistons.

I may install the piston mod in single player just to play with it.

Yeah, I had heard, but couldn't believe. It's a bit of a shame though since I just spent the last month experimenting & learning up on cart based boosters. Supposedly, only certain designs lagged the system (ones where the cart is never allowed to rest like keeping them in a V or spinning in circles). But yeah, I donated an entire cube of gold to Gabe so he could work on his roller coaster with the new boosters (pretty good fun too). Gold has become quite valuable to me.

I didn't know that the moving on water was broken (of course, I hadn't tried since 1.4). Well, at least it's still somewhat serviceable. I usually just take the cart I start with anyhow (since I leave from my place).

I'm pretty sure it is broken. Right after the update I rode into one of Taz's stations and the returning cart just sat there in the water when it arrived.

Minecraft Beta 1.6.6 released today:

Unless there are any emergency things to fix, I won’t do any more updates before 1.7. Going to E3 on Saturday.

I will be bringing my laptop to do some development, but I won’t be able to do much testing.

ONWARDS TO THE ADVENTURE UPDATE! *holds up sword, poses dramatically*

1.6.6:

+ Added a new use for bonemeal
* Changed the material of glowstone from “glass” to “stone”. This means you need a pickaxe to get resources from it
* Made glowstone drop more loot
* Made the recipe sizes for creating cloth blocks and glowstone blocks smaller (2x2 instead of 3x3)
* Re-introduced unlimited FPS, renamed the option again
* Fixed beds not working very well at all in SMP
* Fixed destroying a boat spawning the player too low, causing them to sometimes fall through the ground
* Boats float up to the surface quicker
* Boats falling down into water lose their vertical momentum very fast
* Removed Herobrine
I've been killed by Herobrine a few times. Lost everything both times & very quickly.

Nice work. I like the colored blocks & clearly written signs. I'll try it out when things are sorted out. I've already got my track that connects to the system set up with powered rails.

Guess I didn't look around hard enough. Don't know what when on, but my entry front patio was all on fire (made of netherrack) and 3 of the 4 sides of my building's sides are messed up (looks like someone threw water on the lava).
