AOE III.....Bummer

Post by glassoftea »

Well, I've played about 7 or 8 hours of AOE III and I am disapointed.

Problems:

The damn units are too big. Even at 1024x780 the galleon takes up half the screen, you have to move your cursor around to "see" it's health bar.

Unit commands are gone, no more stop, patrol etc.... while many don't care about this, I do, I used them. They have "dumbed down" the game, not good.

Units won't garrison. I'm not sure if this is a bug but I can't garrison units in towers/forts.

It's not a leap foward, the graphics yes, gameplay, no. It's an update, nothing earth shattering.

The new home city concept and lack of drop off points are a nice addition, the card system is ok, seems to me they were trying to entice younger kids who have grown up on pokemon etc.

I have an "evaluation copy" and may not even buy the full version, I'm that disapointed. I may not be playing this in a week.

Well I guess my complaints were for naught.

You can fix all my gripes, but you have to change the settings under the UI menu.....

The game on default is for noobs, and the extreme zoom is for the oooooooohhhhhh awwwwwwww factor, with a proper setup it's a little more fun.

Stilll, not a leap foward, gameplay is the same, even the message boards are dejavu, everyone comparing times to get to the third/fourth age etc. Same game, better graphics, a few new widgets and tweaks here and there, is that good or bad thing, that it is sooooo similar.....

If you want to play some IP to IP when you get it lmk, I'd love to go a few light rounds, practice unit vs unit to see what works and who counters who. I hate to play online with those I don't know 9 out of 10 times you wind up with someone who is either really bad or really good.
