yeah...i definitely do not agree with the inappropriate treatment of the prisoners on our end...but regardless of your culture...decapitation is a "bit" worse than having your weiner photographed while a few people point at you and laugh.

this just proves their animal mentality.

As long as the politicians are calling the shots, it will be a politically correct war.

What I would like to see a Soldier do the same to one of the fvcks in prison. I guess having a women with a nude arab on a leash was too much?

I don't get it. They (iraqi's and al queda) after they torture and kill our people they celebrate on conquered vehicles and soldiers. Some of ours gets payback and not nearly as bad, then it's all holey hell America is so bad.

Imagine how it feels being a soldier there. Seeing and hearing about your buddies getting killed, hacked up, limbs hacked off, burnt to a crisp, drug through the streets and then seeing the iraqi's celebrating on killed American soldiers and vehicles time and time again. Then it's made out to seem ok if they do it. Think bullshit like that doesn't have an effect on our guys?

But no, even our own damned media plays up how we "tortured and humiliated" iragi prisoners. Ok fine, mention that, but you damned well better mention stronger how they are doing our people too.

Where are those idiots saying our media is all American propaganda.

MY TAKE (and as a card carrying liberal you may be suprised):

THE PRISON SCANDAL:

This should have been a non-issue. The only persons that should be courtmartialed are ones who took the photos in the first place and the asshole who leaked the photos to the press.

The other person that should be courtmartialed is whoever failed to see this as a potential public scandal back in February when investigations started.

There is no doubt in my mind that the guards were told (probably not on paper) to treat those prisoners in exactly that manner as part of their interogation process. Nor do I see a problem with that. The people in that section of the prison are insurgents and terrorists. They weren't just picked up on the street randomly.

We did the same sort of demeaning interogations in Afganistan, but we had the brains to do it right. We didn't do it ourselves, instead we turned them over to intelligence officers from other friendly governments that don't have to work under the same legal restrictions we do. Moreover although there was plenty of talk about it - off the record - there were never any pictures, and it was never an issue.

Here's what I think happened:

- Representatives from Military Intelligence "suggested" that the guards soften up the detainees a bit in creative ways to make them more amenable to interogation (again, I don't have a problem with it. This is war and anyone that thinks that shit like this doesn't go on in war - even among "civilized nations" is naive).

- Some stupid moron among the guards decided to take some pictures for fun, momentos, to send to his buddies at home, or whatever. THAT was a mistake and a lack of dicipline. SCREW UP #1.

- When the investigation started some unspeakable dumb-sh@t leaked the pictures to the press. SCREW UP #2

- No one in the defense or state department saw any of this as a potential scandal until the very last minute (HELLO?) thus no damage control was in place when the pictures aired. SCREW UP #3

THE SAD THING is that these poor slobs who are going to be rushed through a kangaroo court courtmartial are going to be used as scapegoats. But that's another reality of the real world at war.

The whole thing should never have been allowed to get out in the first place.



THE DECAPITATION OF THE AMERICAN CIVILIAN:

Anyone who thinks that the people who decapitated this poor guy really give a rat's ass about the treatment of Iraqi prisoners in the prison scandal is living in la-la land.

This is a propganda war. They just used the prison scandal as an excuse to kill this guy and score points with muslims who may not have been sympathetic to their cause before the prison scandal. They would still have beheaded the guy, but would have used some other excuse for the action. That's the way it works, Live-At-Five on Al Jazeera the All Terrorist Network.

People in the state and defense departments better wake up to the fact that half this war is being fought in the media, and not just the American media.

I'm with Pred on this one. It is time to send the Politicians to a fund raiser or some damn thing and let the military do what it is trained to do. KILL THE ROTTEN BASTARDS!!!!!!
