Bought an S9+

I finally decided to upgrade from my S5. My first impressions is that overall the phone is very fast. The screen looks great but the edges are going to take a bit of getting used to. Due to the aspect ratio, the phone isn't much wider than the S5. I don't like the fingerprint sensor being next to the camera. That's going to make the lens easy to smudge. I was worried that the phone would be slippery since it's glass but it feels good to hold. However, it's very fingerprint prone and I ordered the Samsung folio case. Although I ordered it with the phone, is hasn't shipped yet.

The initial setup wasn't bad but could've been easier if AT&T hadn't hidden the activate phone section on their website. It was located under My Orders. The SIM card / SD Card tray is flimsy. Keeping the cards in place during insertion was a pain. Samsung needs to make it stiffer or fit a cover over it so cards don't pop out.

I've only had the phone for about 2 hours as I'm writing this. I took a picture of the dog, uninstalled all of the crap I don't use, and played Love Live! School Idol Project. It's a rhythm game that's highly addictive and the only mobile game I play these days. I was missing taps that I know I hit correctly so I turned on the higher screen sensitivity. It seemed to have helped but I'm going to have to get used to playing on a different phone and probably adjust the timing offset in game.

The phone does have front facing stereo speakers and they sound okay. The headphones are AKG branded and sound really good too.

I'm still on my s5, 4 years running. I'd like to upgrade, but the costs of the phones these days.

Well, I gave up on my S5 since you can't get a decent battery replacement. They are all crap from China. The battery will work great for the first few days, then it requires constant charging. So I bought a S9. I did not get the +, as I weighed my options on what I needed. I like the fact that the S9 comes with a phone jack, support for micro card, and wireless charging. Now I'm going through to move all the junk apps to another screen, then I will delete them.

I'm going to go on Amazon to see what they have for covers. Any suggestions Err?

On Samsung devices, look at Package Disabler Pro. It's cheap and you can disable/hide all the bloatware

Still happy with the Pixel 2 XL. The fingerprint reader is near the camera as well and for the first few weeks I was pressing the camera instead of the fingerprint sensor half the time, but now I'm used to it and it's not an issue.

I do like the fact that Google is pushing out security updates regularly and promptly. I've gotten three updates since I bought it - about once a month. Just installed one today. That's probably more updates total than I've had on my old phone.

Wireless charging is the only thing I wish it had.

I went with the Samsung Flip Case for mine. It offers protection for the curved edges and doubles as a stand. As a plus, you can still see the always on display and operate your music player controls with the case closed. The two links below appear to be the same case but the first is $25 and the second is $44.

I removed most of the Samsung, AT&T, and google apps I'll never use the other day. The phone feels a bit snappier than it already was. The only thing I haven't messed with is Bixby. I've never set it up so it's not really an issue. I'd be willing to try it if I didn't have to set up a Samsung account just to use it. You can remap the button using a third party app but I haven't done so.

Walmart also carries this case: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Samsung-S-Vi ... se&veh=sem

Yeah I was reading about Bixby and went ahead and set it up since it's the only way to disable it if you wanted to. Most of the complains about it are related to the left button which most will touch, then it will activate Bixby. I'm not a big fan of this type of assistance, but WTF - I'll try it and if I don't like it, I will then disable it. Thanks for those links.

I'm hoping for wireless charging on the Pixel 3.
