64GB micro SD Card not recognized as Formatted in Windows

UPDATE: I feel stupid now but learned a lesson. The card wasn't at fault. My SD to USB adapter doesn't recognize cards above 32 GB. I discovered this by plugging the card directly into my wife's laptop running windows 7 and my daughter's laptop running 8.1. Both computers recognized the card and brought up the folders. It never crossed my mind at first to try a different adapter because it works for everything else I own. Everything else I own is 32GB and under.

I finally bought a Galaxy S5 to replace my aging S3 this week. I decided to expand my memory card form the 32GB Sandisk Class (something) to a 64 GB. I purchased a Sony 64GB Class 10 micro SDXC from Amazon (SR64UY2A/TQ). I placed the Sony into my phone and let it format it. It sees it as having a 59.81 GB capacity after Mounting and formatting. When I place the card into a micro SD to SD adapter and then into a USB adapter, Windows 8.1 says it's unformatted. If I select format, it only sees it as a 32 GB card.

I placed the card back into my phone and am currently transferring the contents of the old one via USB. At lease this phone supports 3.0 so it's not agonizingly slow. Still, I don't understand why Windows doesn't see the card as being formatted. My searches came up empty. It seems to be working and I can view the contents that have already been transferred on the phone.

You don't need to format a new card to use phone, just install and go.

It works in the phone. However, I'd like to be able to pull if from the phone should I want to transfer any pictures to my computer or add more music.

It could be a counterfeit card. Pop it in your PC and run a utility like FakeFlashTest or USB Flash Drive Tester and see if it's actually a 64GB card.

The card was manufactures by Netcom. I e-mailed Sony asking them if this was a Sony card or not. Like I stated previously, the card works fine as long as it's in the phone.

To copy pics from my phone, I just plug the phone into the PC via USB, find the directory and copy it every so often. No muss, no fuss

years ago I got scam on a thumb drive I bought off the forum. the only way I could tell it was a fake was when it died a couple of days later was by calling Sony . turned out at the time they didn't make a thumb drive of that size. that was a $100.00 burn I took .the scammer was banned but I was out $100.00 for a piece of junk that was tossed into the trash. don't recall the size of the drive .
