Sounds like an interesting story. I might have to buy a WSJ paywall subscription. I've come across a lot of interesting articles from them recently.
BTW: No one seems to have brought up the fact (in everything I've read about this fiasco) that Sapphire glass IS commonly in use already. It's used in aircraft avionics instrument displays. I suppose what makes this different is Apple needs a much thinner product with reliable yields, and it has to be cost effective.
