NoteSync Notepad App for Android, Windows & Mac

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Up until now I had been using Catch Notes/AK Notepad to allow me to take notes on my Android devices and sync them (I could also log into Catch.com on the PC and read/edit my notes from there as well).

Unfortunately, Catch.com is shutting down their servers at the end of August. They were nice enough to notify us a month before and they gave us a tool that lets you export all your notes to a text or CSV file.

However I was left to look for a replacement and there really aren't many good ones. I didn't want to rely on another company's server, who may pull the plug again some day.

There are a few note apps that will sync to your Google Docs account, and that seemed to be a good idea - Google isn't going to shutdown Google Docs anytime soon. However some of these apps are very questionable, written by nobodies and not properly vetted. Not too keen on giving an app access to my Google account password if I don't know if I can trust them.

After a lot of research I found NoteSync. They have excellent customer reviews, and they've been reviewed by respected sites including LifeHacker. It was originally only for Windows and Mac (it's an Adobe Air app) but they recently added an Android app. They've been around since 2010 or so with the desktop versions.

I have it installed on my phone and my two tablets. I have it installed on my wife's phone just to have her notes backed up.

The Android app is only $1:

The Desktop Version is free:
