thoughts cell phone insurance !

Post by renovation »

im at a cross road on keeping insurance on my cell phones or dropping it and taking or chances .
what brought all this up is were with sprint and 3-4 days from a new contract replacement .are daughter broke her s4 apple and they wouldn't allow her to update to a new phone. told her she have to wait for the full $150 credit or spend $100.00 to get a replacement of the unit she has now. she took option 3 they tape it together so she could keep using it . she could of got $75.00 off on a new phone today.
so im thinking is it really worth getting insurance on a cell phone .
for my galaxy s3
its like $11.00 per month for insurance . plus $100 replacement fee if its unrepairable and they need to get me one.
so in 24 months I will have payed $ 264.00 for coverage plus a extra $100 if they need to replace it for any reason . for a grand total of $364.00
I know right now the list retail price of my phone is per Sprint $549.00 plus tax.
im sure I can find a better deal going on Ebay.
just not sure what i really want to do.
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

IMO, Insurance isn't worth it. Spend the money on a nice protective case for your phone. Chances are you'll never use it. If the phone does get broken before you're due for an upgrade, find a cheap one to use until you can get a new one.

$11/mon insurance for a cell phone? no way. if it was a buck or two maybe...but $11 is too steep IMO, especially with a $100 fee if enacted. considering how often i switch devices, most are still under hardware warranty when they are replaced anyway. if that insurance covers accidental damage (toilet water anyone? lol :p ) and you are prone to accidents...then i guess it's something to consider.

I've never carried it.. Just not worth it.. But, knock on wood, I've never dropped or broken a phone either over the last 15 years of having a cell phone.

I have it and it came in handy a few months ago when my EVO 4G died. Sprint replaced it with what I presume is a refurbished, and but it looked brand new. They didn't supply a battery or memory card, and you just use your old ones.

I've never had it either as I have very good luck with electronic devices but when I pre-ordered my Galaxy S4 through US Cell, I opted for it as it's only $5.95 per month and if you don't have it and something happens to the phone, it's about $700 to replace that.
