Sager?

Post by chak22 »

I have been shopping for a new lappy to replace my Toshiba , and I have been taking a serious look at Sager laptops as they seem to be higher quality then the Dells, HP etc. , but I would like some input if anyone has had any experience with Sager, I am currently looking at NP3880 and the NP5320 any input would be greatly appreciated.....................

they rock but not as a lappy but more as a desknote (i.e. the battery life suxors) but for performance they cannot be beat. Look at the Dell XPS? that is a nice setup as well. Lastly, don't be afraid to poke around at this forum.....

Also if you do buy a Sager buy it from PCTorque.com

PCTorque has better prices, service, and support than Sager direct.

I would go with the Dell, what's your budget?

I'd take a Dell any day. They make nice lappies and if you have the at-home warranty you have no hassles.

Here's a nice coupon from Gotapex.com:

Inspiron notebook deals link: http://www.gotapex.com/l/?SFYYLYS3

* $300 off $999+ Inspiron notebook purchases, excluding XPS. Use code: D$P$MMWQLQ0NCS

Well my budget is around $1,400.00 , which wont get me into the Dell XPS , the Inspiron 1505 seems to be a close fit to what im looking for also , so its a toss up between these two , the 15 in screen is what i want ,the 17 in screen is a little too large ,a couple of the guys I work with have the 17s and I think its a little too much , the sager has a higher resolution display than the dell and a 12cell battery and battery life really isnt an issue as I have a converter for the truck and I am rarely unplugged for any great amount of time ,and as I want them configured the price difference is only 50 dollars , but the dell is the dual core which is a plus , I think I will be placing an order sometime next week , so I have a few days to get some more input and do a little more research before I make up my mind , your help is greatly appreciated !!! and if you have anymore input LMK ,perhaps I can be swayed to one or the other to make my decision easier ..... :bang

If you're going to use that coupon code I posted, be aware that it has a limited number of uses and no guarantee how long it'll be good for.

Also be aware that Dell's prices change every Wednesday at midnight. Their specials always start 12:01am Thurs and run to the following Wed midnight.

Check GotApex for specials and coupons.

Just throwing in that Sager makes the laptops that Alienware sells. Or at least that is the consensus around the internet.

Dell's not too bad on the background apps. Better than HP or Toshiba.

You want to LEAVE Quickset - especially if you have a high-res desktop. It's a far better desktop and power management system than Window's. It also gives you visual cues for function keys (press F2 to turn off Wifi and you see a big icon to confirm it, change the brightness or volume and you see it reflected in an onscreen bar).

Download Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (a superior utility over MSCONFIG) - you can't disable the two Dell tech support apps running in the background easily without it since one of them doesn't show up in MSCONFIG.

Google desktop and toolbar also usually come pre-installed and that's you call. I like the toolbar but I haye the desktop search.

There's not much else. Use their WiFi app if you want or Window's built-in one (most 3rd party WiFi apps work better than Windows but I'm a purist and hate ANY unneccesary background apps).

Oh, even if you didn't order an AV app (and I hope you didn't waste your money - AVG or AntiVir works fine for free) they usually put a 30 day trial of McAfee on there and the latest version is a bitch to uninstall for a non-techie (not Dell's fault - that's McAfee being bastards). You will find you CANNOT uninstall it from Windows (you'll get an error saying McAfee is still running even if you turn off and disable all of it's services). You need to boot into Safe Mode and uninstall it from there.

In Add/Remove Programs you will also find Viewpoint Viewer. Nuke it - it's a very low risk spyware app. Pretty harmless actually, but no reason to have it in there. And AOL of course is also usually pre-installed.
