My Backup Pro for Android Mini Review

Reviewed out of necessity. My Android phone died last friday. I have an insurance plan so Sprint replaced it for free. I elected not to have Sprint do the copy/restore since I didn't want to give them any passwords, and I've done Android migrations before.

Even without a backup program it's easy just tedious (log into your Google account and that brings back your contacts & calendar and authenticates the phone for any apps you previously purchased on that account).

However, I had purchased My Backup Pro a year ago. This DOES NOT require rooting the phone. It allows you to backup your settings and apps to your memory stick (and optionally to a cloud backup which I opted not to use). So I've been backing up my phone every couple of months and then copying the backup files to my server.

When I got the new phone I plugged my old phone's SD card into it, logged into my Google account and downloaded My Backup Pro. Then I used My Backup Pro to restore the last backup (from 2 months ago) saved on my SD card.

Worked like a charm. Restored all my apps without having to download them, restored most of my system settings, and (most important and surprising) it restored all the app icons and gadgets to the same locations on all my home screens. Basically it restored 90%, the rest being mostly settings internal to specific apps.

The app lets you select what you want to backup. For instance you can optionally backup your music, videos, contacts and calendar but I have no need for this. My music and video are on the SD card and even if I lost the phone, the music and videos are backed up. Contacts and calendar don't need to be backed up either if you sync to a Google account.

Saved a lot of time.

Highly recommend it.

Nice, worth it for the time savings. I've transferred my account from phone to phone enough times to wish there was something to do this for me.
