No more cables!
I'd been stalling on the iOS 5 update on my iPod touch but when I found out about this, I upgraded tonight.
Unfortunately iTunes has to be running, but if it is your iPod/iPhone/iPad will sync wirelessly every time you plug it into a charger. You can also manually trigger a wireless sync from iTunes or from your device.
HOWEVER, I ran into a snag setting this up for a client today. iTunes sometimes doesn't configure the Windows firewall to let it get through (in this case it was a Windows XP PC which may be the reason). I would assume that a 3rd party firewall would need to be manually configured as well.
This article explains how to setup Wifi sync and which ports need to be opened in your firewall: http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/13/wi-fi-sy ... pad-ios-5/
