Re: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090
EVGA says they are getting in a big supply of cards this week, so I would recommend going to their store and using the auto notify button if you're interested in a card.
I have auto notify set on their store and Newegg.

Thanks FP. Hopefully we won't get the notifications after the cards are sold out.

Gamers Nexus compares the Founders Edition RTX 3080 Cooler and a Triple Fan cooler vs. CPU & RAM Temperature:

Looks like it doesn't make much of a difference in the operating temperature of an air cooled CPU.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090
I've gotten a couple of auto notify emails from NewEgg for the Asus GTX 3080 TUF (that's the one that had the good capacitors day one and no one has reported problems with it), but they're gone by the time I see the email.
Not a big deal. I expect it take a while for the capacitor issue to get resolved and stock to slowly build, but keeping my eyes open.

Guru3D's been keeping up on the CTD issue:https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/gefor ... ation.html
They also explain why Diver version 456.55 fixes the CTD for most people. Still, I'd only recommend the the Founder's Edition, ASUS, or EVGA cards.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090
Yeah, the driver seems to work by changing the boost clock curve and capping the boost 50MHz lower, with practically no effect on performance. That will help the troublesome cards, but like you, I'm sticking to the known good designs.
What's troubling is that article's report that OEMs weren't allowed to stress test the cards with real world gaming before the public release, in order to prevent benchmark leaks. That's just stupid.

Hardware Unboxed has a video up on the 3080 crashing investigation. It had nothing to do with the capacitors. The problem was also happening on NVIDIA Founders Edition and ASUS cards.
It was entirely the fault of the NVIDIA windows drivers prior to 456.55 as previously mentioned.

RTX 3080 shortages are “not a supply issue”, Nvidia just couldn’t supply enough
It's official. Nvidia says you probably won't find a card until 2021

At lease by the time we get one the drivers will have matured. I'm hoping AMD's Big Navi will at least equal a 3080. We need competition again.

Re: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090
EVGA figured out a fair way to do this. If you have previously used their auto notify, or use it now, you're in a queue. When cards become available the earliest people in the queue get first dibs via an email and you have 5 hours to buy it or it's offered to the next person in the queue.

A friend of mine got his e-mail today. His 3080 will be arriving next Tuesday. I didn't sign up for the model he's getting. It one of the cards that get 3 x 8 pin.FlyingPenguin wrote:EVGA figured out a fair way to do this. If you have previously used their auto notify, or use it now, you're in a queue. Re: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090
Well if you followed my other thread I upgraded my 750 PSU to an 850. The 750 would have been enough, but I like a little head room, and the workstation that I'm moving the old GTX 1080 to only has a 550, so the 750 is going in there along with it.

Gotcha. I thought I saw that somewhere but I thought it was in this thread and I couldn't find it. Gracias

Gaming Jesus released a review of the EVGA RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra (what they used to call the 'Superclock' version).
