The heatsink on the Founder's Edition is a bit ridiculous. However, having it set atop the hard drive cage would prevent the card from sagging. I think all of the third party vendors are using traditional 3 fan coolers that only take up 2 slots. They're also using 2 x 8 pin rather than 2x 8 pin to 12 pin adapters.

I still see this as a form over function design. It'll be interesting to see how this card affects internal case temperatures. I'm still hyped for these cards.

Well that's a 3090 in the photo. The 3080 founders edition is only 2 slots. Realistically, unless you're maybe doing game development, the 3090 is more of a show piece than anything else.

Unboxing of with a 3080 Founders that shows how awkward the location of that power connector is, it's not going to be easy to tear it down, confirms no SLI.

I don't like that design though for air flow. I want a more traditional design.

Ditto. And it seems to me that in order to make that front fan a pass-through they had to cram the electronics into a tighter space. On standard video cards, the PC board is the full length of the card. It really looks like NVidia wanted to make an artistic statement with the 30xx series. I do admit, it IS a unique looking card, but I don't give a hoot what the card looks like. You can't see into my case. I want a standard cooler, and I want to be able to easily dismantle it if I have to.

So far, it doesn't look like anyone, is copying the NVidia pass-through cooler design for the 3rd party models.

Yep! I'll go with EVGA if they ditch that new design.

Nice. They managed to squeeze the XC3 version into a two slot cooler. I also prefer the 8 pin power connectors. Hope they do this with the 3080. Not a fan of using an 8 pin to 12 pin adapter.

The Techpowerup one is the one I looked at first this morning, even before seeing your post. They tested a LOT of games.

The Doom Eternal numbers are impressive. The frame rate difference between a 1080Ti and the 3080 is DOUBLE at 4K. And my old card is a 1080 not a Ti version.

Neatly double in Metro Exodus, which is the one RTX game I have. You take a 50fps hit with RTX on in this game (according to another chart) but that's still a respectable 100 fps.

Holy crap! They took it apart. You can see how small the circuit board has to be to allow for the passthrough fan.

Gamer's Nexus Video if you prefer to watch and listen. He's pretty thorough but it's 30 minutes:

Techspot's review has the GTX 1080 in their charts, for those of you who are a glutton for punishment:
https://www.techspot.com/review/2099-geforce-rtx-3080/

It's refreshing to see NVIDIA is back on track for the generational performance increase and value.
While the tier 2 2080 matched the tier 1 1080 Ti performance, they charged the same price for it.
The 3080 beats the 2080 TI in performance and is hundreds of dollars cheaper.

Hardware Unboxed is their YouTube site for the review:

Here's a megapixel comparison between the various resolutions:
1080P - 1920x1080=2,073,600
1440P - 2560x1440=3,686,400
1440P ultrawide - 3440x1440-4,953,600
triple 1080P monitors - 5760x1080=6,220,800
4K - 3840x2160=8,294,400
8K - 7680x4320=33,177,600

As you can see there is a huge difference between standard 1440P and 4K resolutions.
