Nvidia RTX 20 Series: Why You Should Jump Off The Hype Train

I've only seen one game listed (Metro Exodus) that will support Ray Tracing. Take away Ray Tracing and this card really is not much better than a 1080Ti. I'll pass for now.

I like great graphics as much as the next person. That's why I traded up for a 1080 when they got released. However, all the pretty graphics in the world won't substitute for gameplay. There have been very few AAA PC games that have interested me lately. I'm looking forward to more Doom and Tomb Raider but having ray tracing makes no difference to me.

I'd also skip this generation of video cards to give time for the technology to mature. Remember how badly NVidia implemented PhysX? I remember having to turn it off so games wouldn't crash.

Nvidia is claiming a 50% increase from the 1080 to the 2080 without DLSS. We'll see when the real in-game performance numbers come out.

Pre-Order Pricing: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/preor ... 80-ti.html

I'm not paying $1,000+ for a video card. You can buy a decent budget PC for that or a PS4 pro or Switch with games for half of that.

VideoCardz say they have a copy of the Nvidia official Reviewers’ Guide, with performance graphs:

Bottom line is that they are faster than 1080 series, how useful that faster is is open to question unless you're running 4k or a 144fps monitor.

They keep pushing the Ray Tracing feature, but I dunno. I SEE the difference but I don't see that it MAKES a big difference. It's one of those things that'll be nice to have when ALL cards have it, and MOST games use it, but meh.

Metro Exodus is the only game so far on the Ray Tracing list that I'm interested in and it doesn't look like I'll miss the feature.

If I was two or more generations behind I'd buy one, but since I have a factory superclocked 1080 I don't see any reason to. Probably skip this generation.

That's my opinion of ray tracing too FP. It's really cool but I don't need to spend $1K on a card for a few games that use it.

3DMark is coming out with a demo with ray tracing. You can see how accurate the reflections are but I think it's going to be a few years, before the graphics hardware can can fully use it with high frame rates.

Hardware Canucks uses actual in-game run-throughs in their reviews.
They have the RTX 2080 FE at 41% faster then the GTX 1080 FE at 4K stock speeds and the RTX 2080 TI FE at 42% faster the GTX 1080 TI FE at 4K stock speeds.
They show the 2080 FE at 6% faster then the 1080 TI FE at 4K stock speeds.

The general community consensus is that a fully overclocked 2080 is about the same speed as a fully overclocked 1080 TI. They have 2 4K overclocked results with a RTX 2080 TI FE and RTX 2080 FE. Looks like the overclocked RTX 2080 TI FE is about 30% faster then the overclocked RTX 2080 FE.

It's a shame these cards are so much more expensive then the previous generation. Just goes to show what happens when you have no competition.
