I currently have a ati 9800pro 128. im looking at this one to replace it. SAPPHIRE 100131SL Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
$139.00 I was wondering how much better this card is than my old one for gaming? And if there is another in this price range made by another company?

Welsome to PCA!
The GTO is dumbed down version of the X800 Pro. It has less pipelines. It's the same chip used in the x800 Pro but the chip failed quality control as a pro chip and they disabled some pipes and made it a GTO.
Some people have flashed the BIOS to make GTOs into Pros but good luck playing that game.
Bottom line, the x800 GTO is better than your existing 9800 Pro, but not much better. Frankly I'd shop around for a used or refurbished x800 Pro or x800 XL which is a much better card. Even better would be an x850 Pro.
What difference would you notice? From my personal experience you would be able to play HL2/Dod Source/CS Source at 1280x1024 with HDR enabled with the same framerate that you'd get on your 9800 Pro at 1024x768 with HDR disabled.
FEAR goes from being barely playable at 800x600 to a joy to play at 1024x768 with better eye candy.
Did a little Googling and I found this which seems like an insane price ($139) for a new ATI x850 Pro:
