Just read a review of the 9700-Pro, and got pretty impressed :)
Was thinkin of a desent Ti4600 card... but the 9700-Pro is way faster and i've heard ATi cards have the same crisp output as Matrox cards do... but how is the drivers for ATi these days?

Any thoughts? :)

I loved my AIW 32mb DDR when I had it and I love my 8500 64mb DDR now. I too am thinking of upgrading to the 9700 Pro :D I've not ohad any problems with the drivers as of late. You can always check out the rage3d boards (http://www.rage3d.com) and see what others have to say about 'em. Keep in mind, there are bound to be a ton of people talkin' about problems but keep in mind again only people with problems are posting :)

I love mine!

Cant even pry it from my cold dead hands....that is until the next latest and greatest comes out :)

Did not have a problem with the drivers at all, unproblematic and a wonderful quick install

currently running 8500dv,8500/64mb,7500aiw,7000 64/mb/pci :)

new drivers are very simple for the straight video cards and are upgraded on a fairly regular basis - the drivers for the aiw cards are still kind of a pain, because you need to start with the original disk and then upgrade different drivers in a certain order - i really like the video quality - i just replaced a gf2 pro with an 7500 aiw and the difference in clarity is noticeable.

my 8500dv runs stuff like bf1942 fine, and has all the other goodies

Have you thought about going to the 9700 pro AIW board when you move up?
