Hey Phil, at this point I don't believe it's actually "user error". I've tried a lot of different things that open the file and will play the first 11 hours or so.. But then they all crash leading me to believe the file is corrupt.. 3 days or processing for nothing. Which is why I'm going the route I mentioned above. But I may see if Tonto can take a look see and possibly help me out..

I think it's less likely that it's corrupt, and more likely that your video apps just can't handle that large a file. Don't forget that in order to edit a file you usually need the same amount of free hard drive space as the size of the file for temp files.
I really think it would be easier to buy a VCR for $50 and just record it (assuming you have composite video out on whatever machine plays that video). Cheap and sleezy solution would be to just use a camcorder to record it right off the computer screen.

Just wondering - when you were using VDub, after loading the file in, did you try marking chunks of the avi off and cutting them until you got it down to the part you wanted to save?
It might be a way of getting around the crashing....
