Pointless Question (Perhaps)

I probably needn't ask this, but I'd like to make sure.

An XP 1700+ T'bred, not oc'd, along with an evga GeForce 4 Ti4200 should be sufficient to run CS at a constant 100 or 99 fps, right?

ATM I'm using an ATI 7500 (while my 8500 is RMA'd for the fan) and a Duron 850, along with some sort of shitty Via chipset compaq mobo with a 200 mhz fsb.

It gets about 50 fps in CS using as many low-fps tweaks as I can think of...openGL at 1024. And yes, I turned Vsync off.

I'd like to be able to get 100 fps using direct3d. Other games are pretty much unimportant because I really only play CS. ;/

Yes the 1700+ and ti 4200 should easly get you 100fps in that OLD ASS GAME that should be put to reas already.

Try Battle field or something. Metal of honor even and I am sure there are many others...but that wasnt your question.

I would sugest making sure you have the latest video, direct x, chipset, and bios though to get the most Gas out of the system.

Thanks for the quick reply - I know a lot of the veterans are fading out unless they're involved in CPL or the higher CAL leagues.

It isn't as much about the game as it's about the CS community (yeah, I know there are plenty of annoying people, but there ARE a lot of cool people involved in CAL and such) and my goal to move up in CAL.

I've got a long story but I won't waste reader time.

Also, of course I'll be downloading the other good games from the present as soon as I get these parts from newegg and have them slapped together.

Anyone recommend a type of linux, while I'm at it? I'll probably go with Mandrake or RedHat (if I can find a nice pirated-type version).

actually I beleive they are both free. <a href ="http://www.linuxiso.org/" target="_new"> Try Here </a> Just download the iso, and then burn the iso on a cd.

in my experience halflife and its mods have always ran faster and smoother in openGL
this being said you should be able to get 100+ easy-its hard to tell the dif after 70 since cs isnt really subject to frame drop on modern hardware

yes, that hardware will run CS around 100fps a second at 1024x768

OpenGL is better than d3d

Maybe we could play a few round of CS, i still play quite a bit

I'm not trying to start a political controversy here, but it's my spray in counter-strike.

I made it myself (not that it took any talent.)

Either way, I'm open to political discussion but I won't bring it to these forums, especially not with my being a newcomer.

skald@ec.rr.com, as found in my profile. Knock yourself out, I don't have anything better to do than fire back counter-arguments.

As for the above/mentioned parts, I got the ti4200 (evga) yesterday and it runs 80-99 fps in CS with a duron 850 that's probably on its last leg. The mobo is a piece of shit as well, some Compaq-manufactured thing with a via chipset. Also, the ram is sadly slow, I don't even know the speed/pc#, and I think it's generic.

So of course, this gives me great hope for the performance of a comp with an a7n8x/pc3200 DDR/1700+ tbred B oc'd to I'm not sure what yet. If this Duron/shitmobo can do it, I'm sure that can. :D I'll probably be moving to other games like bf1942 or some such soon since a strict regime of CS gets old, as all of you know.

i wasnt trying to start a political fight or anything....i was just curious why you had bush as a tyrant. I think he did an excellent job with whats going on, and for that i give him respect as our president, so when I saw your pic i was just naturally curious

as for the system......80-99fps with the duron is good. You wont be able to get over 100fps cause thats CS limit. My system constantly holds at 100 with a few drops down to 95 (amdxp1800, pc2100, ti4600)

But if you plan on playing some battlefield and enjoying it, then yeah you will have to upgrade that rig. Especially when you go to lans where you will have games of atleast 15 on 15
