Leo Laporte just went on a cruise, and he was blown away by the Internet access on the ship.

It's not cheap ($15 a day) but he tested bandwidth speeds of 25Mbit/s! The technology involves dedicating a satellite to a ship and keeping the array aimed at the ship.

If any of you have used cruise ship internet before, you know that in the past it sucked worse than dialup.

Thanks, interesting. The last time I was on a ship the internet was ridiculous slow, unless you were in port and the antennas were stable. I remember see stuff from RCI that they were working on better internet. my wife and I really enjoy cruising b/c you don't have to do anything like cook. It would be great to have internet that worked, but we enjoy meeting new people and seeing new stuff...can't imagine anyone wanting to spend major cash on a cruise and then walking around with their cell in their face checking FB all the time. maybe those folks will be the ones who accidentally walk off the end of the ship...like that guy in CA who walked of the cliff recently.

Last ship I was on, about 3 years ago, was a Carnival ship and the Internet was solid. The office paid for my week's worth of access and it was rather fast, allowing me to VPN in and check on things.
