Google Disables Discussion Search

Idiots. I noticed this a few months ago. I often have to search for fixes to arcane Windows errors or problems, and also for reviews and opinions outside of blogs, articles, and social media (which can all be tainted by payola). Discussion search was a great resource.

Not only is there no discussion filter, it seems like search results push down anything from forums way down the search results list now.

It's so useless to me that I actually use Bing now for researching tech issues, looking up opinions.

One workaround is, if you use Chrome, to use this add-on which gives you back the Discussion filter in search results:

using: https://www.google.com/?tbm=dsc used to work but I see that they've removed that too. That sucks because it was very useful.

Well I can confirm the Chrome add-on works. Not my primary browser, but I use it on my workstation and laptop for accessing my Contacts list via Google Mail.

Yeah thanks for that, Exec. Just yesterday I was trying to research a computer issue at a client's home, and it was irritating me that Google was just coming up with link bait sites instead of useful info. Instead of installing Chrome and that Discussions add-on, I remembered this link you posted.

It's going on my flash drive and homepage now.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more backlash back to google on this. I've switched to using Bing now.
