i'm waiting on the tech now to switch over from cable to a fiber based service. monthly cost will be about the same, but my internet should dramatically increase. i'll post up before/afters once it's up and running (fingers crossed)...

upgrade went smoothly. the tech really knew his stuff and even helped do a bit of custom wiring for me that was above and beyond a normal install.

before service was 30 down / 4 up. now i'm 100 down / 40 up! test show i'm getting the full speed so far. :)

i previously had cable's 100Mbps service, but the upload was only 5Mbps. i dropped that down to 30Mbps since it just wasn't worth it, but now that the upload is so high, it's more benefit to me. the tv service is also quite a bit nicer. more modern interface, better DVR, and the channel changes are almost instant.

That makes me sick. I live in a major city and don't even have those options.

yeah, i had no idea it was even available by me. the ISP rolled it out to just a handful of smaller cities first and some snail junk mail told me about it. the tech said they are even doing 300Mbps in select spots now. i imagine this is to handle the coming changes in tv delivery. they might just be learning that people won't continue paying hundreds per month for a few decent channels.

Well I hope they catch on here. Best I can get is about 50Mb/s currently. And that's paying like $90/month.

Very nice. That 50x faster than me in sunshine, and 100x when it rains. Can't remember anymore what online gaming was like using fast internet.

I wants... Not many high speed options around here, keep trying to get you to pay a whole bunch for a small tier upgrade...

Here is mine on Verizon FIOS:

Verizon has been advertizing a faster connection for $10/month, but I just don't see the point for me and my wife.

Yah, Comcast has a couple of teirs above mine.. Mine is supposed to be 25 down or something along those lines.. But for another $10 I could go to 50... Just no real need for it right now..
