CloudBerry Backup supports Amazon Glacier

Post by FlyingPenguin »

For those of you who don't follow the Security Now podcast. Steve Gibson has vetted this software. He prefers it now over Jungledisk. It can be used with Amazon S3 or Amazon Glacier.

Amazon Glacier is VERY long term data archiving and it's VERY cheap. The catch is that it takes 3 - 5 hours to INITIATE software retrieval. This is not instant retrieval like S3. It's meant to be used for long-term archiving. Gibson thinks they use tape or physically remove and store drives and thus they need the retrieval time to go find your data and rack it up to make it accessible.

In exchange for that, it's very cheap (1 cent per Gb per month!). Great for long term storage like photos that you will only need to retrieve in an emergency.
