Ok I'm new to this and just wounder what others have done
I got rid of cable TV and phone but still have internet. For phone, magic jack was and easy answer. Works fine. For the livingroom tv its all good. I can get to netfix, hulu, utube, ect.. in one of two ways. Hdmi out from the comp to the TV OR use the PS3.
Id like to do the same for the bedroom TV. Right now using rabbit ears for digital broadcast. BLa!
So what's out there to bring the same to that TV? (all I want is the internet to it really)
I have no clue, but preferably somthing with:
Wireless but cat 5 would work too
a remote (a must)
Capable of recording like a dvr?

Willing to spend up to $300 for a nice setup. I've already saved that much dumping triple play. LOL and I dont miss cable at all!!
Thanks!

Basic cable, b/c the FCC requires that it be unchanged local broadcast stations. This can usually be had for $5-9/mo. Pair that with a Silicondust HDHomeRun dual and you can then use windows media center for DVr capability. Come to think of it, you can use Hulu desktop and there is a Netflix app for mcr as well. Google for Hulu desktop integration and that will allow you to launch it from the mce home screen. Netflix has a native mce app.

Let me know if you have questions! I've been using mce for these for years.

You would also be better off ditching the magic jack and using an ATA with a VoIP provider like VoIP.ms or callcentric. This way you can hook up all your house phones and not change the way you make calls.

Have you looked at a Roku? No dvr, though.

Thanks everyone. That Roku looks just right. I don't really need DVR once I think about it.
Daman. What is jailbroken btw? I have no clue.

i'm still very happy with my Roku XS. i use it for about 90% of my viewing, via streaming from a Plex Media Server on a desktop in another room. Plex is very good and free, unless you want to buy the mobile apps and stream to your phone or tablet.

Got a Roku SX. Works great for Netflix and crakle, I don't have Huhu plus but might get it. I think I'll hard wire it because I get the occasional dropout using wireless. That's no problem. I'm hearing this thing avertised on the radio now. Thanks for reccomending it. I'll upgrade to a PC later. This buys me time. :)

I got one myself, and it works great. I'd always wire it if it is an option, better results overall. BTW, if you have an android app on your phone or a tablet, you can use them as a remote or play music from your device to the Roku. It supports Amazon instant video as well, another option for streaming if you happen to already have Amazon Prime.
