Even the re-test is pretty sad. Both in download speed & ping. It would be hard to game with that ping.

Reno, I tried to warn you. That looks like 3G speeds. 500Kbit is about the max on 3G on Sprint. Unless I had no choice at all, I'd never rely on cellular broadband as my primary internet access.
I don't get much better than that on my Sprint connection when I tether my laptop to my phone. It's better than dialup, better than nothing, but it's not great.
There's no 4G around here yet but in Miami I was getting 1Mbit - 2Mbit with 4G, and it was quite usable except for the occasional latency.
The only thing you can do is, assuming this is a USB cellular modem, then get a long USB extension and tape the modem to a window. Cellular is very much line of site and you'll get the strongest signal in a window.

NO DSL - its comcast or nothing. maybe dial up if i got a real landline reinstalled in the house .even then after the remod on the home 8 years ago. I'd have to rewire the place for phone lines as i removed them all. is dial up even avail/offered any more?

DSL would be through the phone company. I would be amazed if you didn't have DSL in your area if you have Comcast.

While I'm on vacation, I'm tethered to my G1 phone & decided to check my speed for comparison. Man, you're not doing well (this is while connected at 3g):

Reno, u SURE there isn't a no-contract option with Comcrap in your area? I have no contract here. They may WANT to push a contract because it gives you a better price over the short term, but it's usually not worth it in the long term. $19.95 internet for 6 months is no bargain if it's $50 a month after that AND you're locked in a contract.
Ignore the specials and the bundles. Just ask about a straight no-contract price for basic cable and Internet. G
You will have to at least pay for basic TV. That's the only way to get Internet. They charge you for it whether you use it or not. That's the way it is around here.
Also ask about a lower bandwidth option. It's called the Economy Plan around here. It's $26 a month for 1.5 Mbit.
