there's this online game I've been playing for years and the servers are in Germany from what I gather. Overall my internet is fine, but for the past 3 days the game keeps timing out, loading very slowly, etc, and it'll last for about 1/2 hour at a time, then it'll clear up for a while, and the cycle continues.

I've talked to in game friends and they aren't having any issues. I have a G3 internet stick from a different ISP and it plays just fine on there, so what the heck is going on? Is my ISP having issues with the servers? Should I call them up, or what can I do?

oh I've rebooted my computer numerous times, and I also reset my modem/router (power cycled)

Well if it works on a wireless cellular broadband connection but not on your ISP then I'd say either you have a problem with your NIC or your ISP is the problem. Could be a lot of things: your home router (if you have one) could be acting up, your modem could be acting up, could be a bad hop between you and the server, a bad main trunkline, a DNS issue.

You can run a trace route test and see if there's a router that's dropping packets. I still use the old UOTRACE utility for that as it works best. Run a continuous trace and see if one of the hops has a lot of packet loss. You can try changing your DNS server manually in case it's a DNS issue but I doubt it. Manually change your NIC's NS servers to OpenDNS (which would be a bad thing anyway): 208.67.220.220 & 208.67.222.222

If you have a spare NIC card or a USB NIC try that to see if it helps.

Calling you ISP would probably be pointless. They never pay attention to anything like that. If the problem is on their end then chances are it will clear up in a week or so when the bad router or bad route gets corrected.
