hi, i am on a LAN network with an internet cafe next door so i browse the net through their connection via a router.

i am not on the network of computers that they have (workgroup)

i have zone alarm professional installed.

is the cafe able to see/collect data about where i browse? basically is my privacy at risk?

cheers

if their router is set up for logging , then yes they can track where you've been.

no, their router assigns an ip address to your device. hope they don't view the logs very often, or go and make arrangements to pay them back.

I don't think he's worried about them knowing he's using it, he's worried about them knowing what he's doing online..

Well it sounds like you've asked them for permission so you're not stealing access I assume? I doubt they're logging - it's usually turned off by default, but you can't be sure.

They would also have to have some way of telling what IP you're using on the LAN at any one time. If you're not using a static IP then every time you connect you're probably using a different LAN address.

Bottom line: Are they likely to be watching where you browse? No. Can you guarantee that? No.

lol! thanks for some common sense! i pay them for using their connection. am in egypt so rather than get my own connection its easier to do this as im only here for another 4/5 months. i wont be using any credit card details etc.. online so i can live with that.

thanks
