Uploading Speed
Uploading Speed
My uploading speed for my internet is supposed to be 384 kb/s, but when I use bitornado and limewire the most I can upload is 46 kb/s combined. Is there something wrong?

it really depends on a few things.
Did you specify upload settings for each connection ? How many people are downloading simultaneously ?
your upload speed is "suppose to be" 384, but it doesn't mean you will get 384. depends on network traffic. just like the highway you can't always drive 70 mph because of other traffic.

correct me if im wrong but when talking bout internet speed dont you normally get your rated, so at 2mB you get 200kb.

As Mega said, you're getting the bandwidth you're paying for. Most apps use KiloBytes/sec not KiloBits/sec measurements, so you're actually okay.

Since we're on the topic of upload speeds:
For $10 a month more I can go from 500 kb/sec uploads and 5000 kb/sec downloads to
1000 kb/sec uploads and 7000 kb/sec downloads. Would this make much of a difference for online gaming? I'm beginning to suspect it's the upload speed that really counts for gaming.

My pings have only dropped by 10 in COD and COD 2.
Not a noticeable difference for gaming as FP said.
heh no offense, but I couldn't help laughing at your ISP.. Calling those "extreme speeds" is just absurd lol.. My "standard" connection is 6mb down and 384kb up.. But, that's still way better than dial up

No offense taken eGoCeNTRoNiX, since 128 kB/sec = 1000 kb up and
880 kB/sec = 7000 kb (7 mb) down.
I wouldn't laugh so hard, since this makes the upload speed 2.6 times faster then yours
and the download speeds 1.17 times faster.
I knew somebody would get their kbs and kBs confused.
I was still surprised the pings only dropped from 90 to 80 from Vancouver to Texas.
Those Oregon pings of 20 are nice though.
I guess it's like a 200 horsepower car can go 150 miles per hour but a
400 horsepower car can't go 300 miles per hour.
