Are you using a "cross over" ethernet cable, or are you using a "straight through" cable?

Yes
I Have tried a different cable.
I have the modem connected to the modem port in the router, the router connected to the computer all by ethernet cable.
The belkin installation disk goes right up to the end and cannot find the modem. The ethernet light will not come on on the modem or the router. But the cable modem works fine by usb
Getting close to xmas now and we are a bit concerned.
All help is appreciated
Thanks

I had this problem at one time, but it was the NIC in the computer that wasn't enabled or connecting to the router.. So a little different.. Not sure where the error could be, hope you find it!

NIC = Network Interface Card.. The card that your ethernet cable hooks up to on the computer. If not properly enabled, the software will not see the router and give you problems. GL
