Post by troyquigley »

i have a WAP54G ACCESS POINT

i was wondering what the best config would be for better distance and more coverage. i am willing to sacrifice some speed to get the distance i need.

here are my current settings

*** ap mode: access point
*** mode: mixed
*** channel: 11
*** ssid broadcast: disabled
*** security mode: wep
*** encryption: 104 / 128-bit (26 hex digits)
*** basic rates: default
*** transmission rates: auto
*** cts protection mode: auto
*** frame burst mode: enabled
*** antenna selection: diversity
*** beacon interval: 100
*** dtim interval: 3
*** fragmentation threshold: 2346
*** rts threshold: 2346
*** snmp v1/v2c: disabled
*** log: disabled

thx for any help

how hardcore do you want to get with it?

if you want to change firmwares, you should check out hyperwap. it is for the most part the same as original firmware, but more flexible and with a bit more power output(supposedly still within legal limits, depending on your locale)

if you are good with a soldering tool, there are also things you could do, if you search for hyperwap, then you will likely come across this procedure as well.

other less intrusive things include adding a signal booster, another WAP as a repeater or bigger antenna and switching off "diversity" antenna to put all the power to one side.
